Finally passed CPG after two attempts — here's what actually worked

So I just got my results back yesterday and I finally passed the CPG exam on my second try. First attempt I scored a 68, which was just brutal after six weeks of studying. I honestly thought I had a decent handle on procurement fundamentals, but the exam catches you on really specific supplier relationship and contract management scenarios that generic study materials just don't prepare you for.

What changed for me the second time around was being way more strategic. I spent the first three weeks going deep on category management and cost analysis — those sections hit harder than I expected. I also started using a CPG practice test site to simulate timed conditions, which exposed gaps I didn't know I had. Do that early, not two days before the exam.

Anyone else working through their CPG study guide right now? Happy to share the topic breakdown I used or answer questions. I know how stressful the wait between attempts feels, so drop any questions below.

This is super helpful, thanks for posting. I failed my first attempt too and nearly didn't bother retaking it. One CPG exam tip that helped me: don't just memorize definitions — understand the *why* behind procurement decisions. The exam loves to give you two technically correct answers and you have to pick the most defensible one from a business standpoint. Took me a while to adjust to that framing.

Congrats! I'm about five weeks out from my exam date and the contract negotiation section is killing me. Did you find the actual test questions were more scenario-based or straightforward knowledge recall? I keep second-guessing myself on practice questions even when I know the concept, which is frustrating.

Two attempts is totally normal for this cert. I know three people at my company who passed on their second try. The pass rate isn't as high as CPSM so don't beat yourself up. Congrats on sticking with it!
