CLC online vs in-person exam — any difference in difficulty?

I have the option of taking my CLC - Certified Lactation Counselor exam online at home or going to a testing center. Trying to figure out which is better for me.

Arguments for online:
- No commute stress
- Familiar environment
- More flexible scheduling

Arguments for testing center:
- No home distractions
- More controlled environment
- Better equipment potentially

My main concern with the online version is proctoring — I've heard some certification exams have very strict rules about what's allowed in the room. One wrong move and you're flagged.

Has anyone taken CLC both ways? Or specifically the online version? How was the experience? And does the difficulty or question format actually differ based on how you take it?

Also — any issues with the "CLC" type content being harder in one format vs the other?

Worth mentioning: the free clc development physiology of lactation covers exactly the areas people tend to struggle with most.

I actually failed the first time by a few points. Total gut punch. But passed on the second attempt with a comfortable margin.

What changed: I stopped trying to memorize answers and started actually understanding the material. Specifically on CLC exam — I went back to basics and worked forward from first principles.

Also switched from reading to doing. Less time with the textbook, more time on practice questions with detailed answer explanations.

You've got this. The second attempt is always better because you know exactly what the exam is like.

Passed CLC 2 months ago. Happy to share what I remember.

On the "CLC exam" stuff specifically — I found the practice tests here were actually harder than the real exam on those questions. Which was great because going in I felt more prepared than I needed to be.

The time pressure is real though. I came in with maybe 8 minutes to spare and that was after skipping the ones I wasn't sure about and coming back.

Don't try to cram the night before. Seriously. Last-minute stress makes you second-guess things you actually know.

Coming back to this thread — just passed my CLC yesterday. Everything about the clc practice test section is accurate. For anyone still studying, the free clc development physiology of lactation was the closest thing to the real exam I found.

For anyone finding this later: CLC is passable with consistent effort even working full time. I studied 45 minutes a day for 12 weeks. The free clc counseling skills techniques kept me honest about my actual gaps.
