Anyone else studying for GENERAL in the next month? Want to study together
Taking my General Contractor License exam in 6 weeks and trying to find people at a similar stage to keep each other accountable.
I study better when I have someone to compare notes with. Currently going through "general contractor license" and working on my weak areas — specifically around get general contractor license nc.
My schedule: 90 min of focused study every weekday, full practice test on weekends. I review every wrong answer and try to understand the why, not just memorize the right option.
If you're in a similar prep window and want to:
- Compare practice test scores weekly
- Share resources that actually helped
- Talk through confusing questions
Reply here or message me. Doesn't have to be formal — even just checking in once a week helps me stay on track.
Where is everyone at in their prep?
Went through this exact question when I was prepping. The GENERAL material on "general contractor license" is actually not as bad as it looks — once it clicks it clicks.
What helped me was finding one resource that explained it from first principles instead of just giving me the "right answer." Made a huge difference on the scenario-based questions.
Also: don't underestimate the importance of reviewing your wrong answers more than your right ones. I learned more from 20 wrong answers than 200 correct ones.
Passed GENERAL 3 months ago. Happy to share what I remember.
On the "general contractor license florida" stuff specifically — I found the practice tests here were actually harder than the real exam on those questions. Which was great because going in I felt more prepared than I needed to be.
The time pressure is real though. I came in with maybe 8 minutes to spare and that was after skipping the ones I wasn't sure about and coming back.
Don't try to cram the night before. Seriously. Last-minute stress makes you second-guess things you actually know.
Failed first attempt, came back to this thread. The consensus on general-contractor-license practice test being the make-or-break area is right. Focusing almost exclusively on applied questions this time around.
The advice about understanding why wrong answers are wrong — not just memorizing right ones — is genuinely the best general-contractor-license advice in this thread. Rebuilt my prep around that and it made a real difference.
Honestly I almost bailed two weeks in. The general contractor material felt endless and I wasn't retaining anything, so I took a few days off and came back with a totally different approach — I stopped trying to memorize everything and just drilled the areas I kept getting wrong. That shift made a huge difference.
If you're struggling right now, don't give up. It gets easier once things start clicking. I passed last month and I promise the weak spots you're grinding on now are the exact ones that show up most. Just keep pushing through them.
I'll be honest, I almost bailed three weeks in. The material felt endless and I kept bombing the practice sections on building codes and project management. Wasn't sure it was worth the stress.
But I just kept chipping away and ended up passing on my first try. The stuff that felt impossible eventually clicks if you stay consistent. Don't quit when it gets hard, that's usually right before things start making sense.
Just passed mine last month so I know exactly where you're at. Honestly the thing that changed everything for me was doing timed practice under real test conditions instead of just reading through material. I was terrible at time management at first, and it was killing me. Found a general contractor practice test pdf and started printing it out and sitting at a table with no phone, no notes, timer running. That shift alone bumped my scores way up.
The "general" section tripped me up too at first but it clicks once you've seen enough questions in that format. Stick with it and you'll start recognizing the patterns. Good luck, you've got time.
