Failed CNS exam twice — what actually worked for my third attempt?

So I finally passed my CNS certification last month after two failed attempts and I honestly didn't think I was going to make it. First time I went in way underprepared — thought my clinical experience would carry me more than it did. Second time I bought one of those cheap question banks and memorized answers without really understanding the rationale. Big mistake.

What finally clicked was building a real study schedule around the actual test blueprint. I spent about 10 weeks, roughly 8-10 hours a week, focusing heavily on pharmacology and the neurological assessment sections since those tripped me up badly. I also started using a solid CNS practice test weekly to track where my weak spots were instead of just grinding through content. That feedback loop was huge.

Anyone else here prepping for their first attempt? I'd love to share what study guide resources I found most useful and hear what's working for others. The exam tips floating around online vary so wildly in quality — some are genuinely helpful and some are just noise.

Congrats on passing! I'm sitting for mine in about six weeks and the pharmacology section has me nervous too. I've been doing a CNS practice test every Sunday morning and tracking my scores in a spreadsheet. My baseline was around 58% and I'm up to 71% now, so I feel like things are moving in the right direction. How did you approach the neurological assessment content specifically? That's my other weak area.

The study guide you use matters more than people admit. I passed on my first attempt but I was religious about sticking to resources aligned with the AACN blueprint — anything off-topic felt like wasted time. I also did timed practice tests rather than untimed ones starting about four weeks out. Simulating the actual test conditions made a real difference on exam day. The time pressure is real and if you're not used to it you'll feel it.

This thread is exactly what I needed to find today. Testing in three months and already anxious. One exam tip I keep seeing everywhere: don't neglect the systems-based care management questions. Apparently they make up a bigger chunk than most people expect. Good luck to everyone here.
