Finally passed my CMO exam after two failed attempts — here's what worked
Okay so I've been lurking here for months and I finally have good news to share. Passed the CMO exam last Thursday with a 78%, which honestly felt like winning the lottery after bombing it twice before. My first attempt I scored a 61% and had no idea where to even start fixing things. Second time I bumped it to a 67% and still fell short. The third time was different because I actually had a real plan.
The biggest shift was switching how I studied. I stopped reading my textbook cover to cover and started using a CMO practice test to figure out exactly which domains were killing me. Turns out I was weak on marketing strategy and budget allocation — two areas I thought I was fine in. Once I identified the gaps, I built my study guide around those specific sections instead of reviewing everything equally.
I studied about 90 minutes a day for six weeks leading up to my third attempt. Anyone else have experience with the CMO exam? Happy to answer questions about what the test day experience is actually like, or share more specific exam tips that helped me finally get over the finish line.
