CKE exam — what's the actual scope? Struggling to find solid prep resources
I've been trying to prep for the CKE and I'm running into the problem that it's not as widely covered in study communities as some other certification exams. The scope description I've found mentions general knowledge across multiple domains but doesn't break down the weighting very clearly.
I'm about 5 weeks out and studying around 1.5 hours a day. I've been covering reading comprehension, basic math, applied reasoning, and some occupational knowledge sections. My practice scores are running around 65–68%, which feels inconsistent enough that I'm not sure which areas to prioritize.
Is the CKE adaptive or fixed format? I've seen conflicting information about whether the difficulty adjusts based on your answers. That would change how I approach the timed portions significantly.
Anyone who's taken this recently—what surprised you most about the actual content versus what the official materials suggested? I'd especially love to hear from people in technical or administrative roles since the prep experience seems to vary a lot by background.
The reading comprehension questions were denser than most other general knowledge exams I've taken. Don't rush through them—every wrong answer there was usually one I didn't read carefully enough, not one I actually didn't know.
I'd also recommend reviewing basic probability and ratio problems for the math section. Nothing beyond 8th-grade level but the framing can be tricky under time pressure.
I sat for the CKE about 6 months ago. It was fixed format for me—no adaptive elements. 120 questions, 2 hours, pretty straightforward pacing if you do a few timed practice runs first.
The applied reasoning section caught me off guard because the scenarios were longer than I expected. Budget more time per question there than you think you'll need.
My background is administrative and the occupational knowledge section leaned heavily toward workplace scenarios—communication, prioritization, basic supervision concepts. Less domain-specific than I feared.
At 65–68% with 5 weeks out, you're in a reasonable spot. I was at 66% four weeks out and passed on the first try after doubling down on timed practice in the final two weeks.
Coming back to this thread — just passed my CKE yesterday. Everything about the cke practice test section is accurate. For anyone still studying, the free cke general knowledge question and answers was the closest thing to the real exam I found.
Great discussion. One thing nobody mentions: sleep the night before matters more than one more study session. Went in fully rested for my CKE and felt sharper than expected.
