Finally passed the CIAC after two attempts — here's what actually helped
I'm not going to sugarcoat it — I bombed my first CIAC attempt pretty badly. Scored somewhere around a 68% when you need a 75% to pass, and I honestly thought I had been studying the right stuff. Turns out I was mostly just re-reading my notes and calling it a day. After that fail, I got serious and spent about six weeks actually drilling with a CIAC practice test every morning before work. That alone changed how I retained the material.
The biggest shift for me was finding a solid study guide that broke down the competency areas — especially the intervention strategies and case management sections, which I was consistently weak on. Once I mapped out exactly which domains I was losing points in, I could target my prep instead of just reviewing everything equally. I probably put in 60–70 hours total across the second attempt window.
Passed with an 81% last Thursday. Genuinely relieved. If you're currently prepping or recovering from a failed attempt, happy to share the specific resources I used — the exam tips I picked up from other people on forums like this one made a real difference.
