CHT exam - anyone else struggle with the patient rights and compliance sections?
I've been working as a transport tech for 2 years and finally decided to sit for the CHT certification. Most of the clinical stuff - equipment operation, infection control, positioning techniques - feels very familiar from daily work. But the compliance and regulatory questions on practice tests are catching me at about 62%, and that's making me nervous.
The HIPAA scenarios in particular have a lot of edge cases. Like when you're transporting a patient and a family member starts asking you questions in the hallway - the right answer seems obvious but the test wording makes three options feel valid. I keep second-guessing myself on those.
I've been studying about 90 minutes a day for 6 weeks. My overall practice score is around 74% which I've read is borderline for the actual exam. I was hoping to be closer to 82% before I scheduled my test date.
If anyone has taken the NAHUC version of the CHT, I'd love to know how the real exam difficulty compared to practice materials. Are the practice tests from the NAHUC website representative?
Infection control and body mechanics were almost word-for-word from training materials. Focus your remaining study time on the regulatory stuff since that's where most people lose points.
The HIPAA scenarios are absolutely the trickiest part. The key I found is defaulting to less disclosure whenever you're uncertain. On the test, if two answers both seem HIPAA-compliant, pick the one that shares less information.
I passed on my first attempt with a 79% practice average going in. The real exam felt slightly easier than the NAHUC practice materials in my opinion. Don't let 74% scare you - a few more weeks of targeted compliance review should get you ready.
Two years of hands-on experience is a huge advantage for the practical knowledge sections. I had coworkers pass with less study time than people coming in from outside the field. Trust what you already know.
