Failed CHST twice — what finally worked for my third attempt?

So I've been trying to get my CHST for about 14 months now. Failed at 68% both times, which is honestly embarrassing to admit publicly, but I figure if my experience helps someone else it's worth it. The exam caught me off guard with how heavy it is on OSHA standards and hazard recognition scenarios — I kept focusing on the math-heavy stuff like accident rates and completely underestimated the behavioral/safety management sections.

What changed for my third attempt: I started using a dedicated CHST practice test site that actually mirrors the real question format. Timed simulations made a huge difference. I also built a proper study guide instead of just rereading my BCSP prep materials — I organized it by domain and tracked which areas I kept missing. Domains 1 and 3 were killing me.

Third time I passed at 76%. If anyone's struggling with similar issues, happy to share my full breakdown of what I studied and in what order. Took me about 9 weeks of focused prep, roughly 8-10 hours per week.

Congrats on passing! I'm in the same boat right now — first attempt coming up in six weeks and the breadth of material is overwhelming. Domain 3 (hazard identification) is where I feel weakest too. Did you use any specific mnemonics for the OSHA 1926 subparts? That's where I keep blanking during timed practice.

The timed simulation piece is what I always tell people. I passed on my second try and honestly the biggest exam tip I can give is to stop reading static content and start doing full 200-question mock exams under real conditions. Your brain needs to build the endurance. Also don't ignore the construction focus — a lot of general industry folks underestimate how construction-specific the scenarios get.

Nine weeks at 8 hours a week sounds about right from what I've heard. Most people underplan the timeline. Good on you for sticking with it — the CHST genuinely means something in the field.
