Finally passed my CHCP after three attempts — here's what actually worked

So I just got my results yesterday and I officially passed the Certified Home Care Professional exam on my third try. I'm not going to sugarcoat it — this test humbled me. The first two times I went in thinking my 8 years of field experience would carry me, and it did not. The clinical eligibility and documentation sections absolutely wrecked my score.

What finally made the difference was actually sitting down with a structured CHCP study guide instead of just rereading my agency's policy manuals. I also did timed CHCP practice test sets every day for about six weeks, which helped me get used to the question phrasing. ACHC and CHAP standards questions tripped me up constantly until I drilled them specifically.

My biggest exam tips: don't skip the infection control and OASIS sections even if you feel confident in those areas, and watch the clock — I almost ran out of time on attempt two. Happy to answer questions if anyone else is in the same boat I was.

Congrats!! I'm scheduled for mine in about 10 weeks and honestly panicking a little. Did you find the actual exam matched the practice questions you were doing, or was the wording totally different? That's my biggest fear — I can get 80s on practice sets but freeze on the real thing. Also, how many questions is the live version now? I've seen different numbers floating around.

This is so encouraging to read. I work in a small rural agency and feel like I'm studying in a vacuum — no colleagues who've taken it nearby. Bookmarking this thread. Did you use any specific prep materials you'd recommend, or mostly free resources?

Three attempts and you kept going — that's the real credential right there. I passed on my second try last fall and what helped me most was focusing on the regulatory compliance questions. They seem straightforward but there are a lot of "best answer" traps where two choices are technically correct. Read every option before clicking. I also made flashcards for CoPs which was tedious but genuinely worth it.
