Finally passed my CFPT after two attempts — what actually worked for me
So I finally got my Certified Financial Planner Technician credential last month and I honestly can't believe it took me two tries. First attempt I went in way too confident — I'd been in financial services for three years and figured that would carry me. Scored a 68 and needed a 75. Ouch.
Second time around I was way more systematic about it. I spent about six weeks on a proper CFPT study guide, focusing heavily on the tax planning and retirement income sections because that's where I dropped the most points the first time. I also did a ton of CFPT practice test questions — like 300+ across multiple sittings — which helped me get comfortable with how they phrase things. The wording on the real exam can be sneaky if you're not used to it.
A few exam tips that genuinely helped: timed practice under real conditions, reviewing every wrong answer immediately, and not cramming the night before. Happy to answer questions if anyone's prepping right now.
