Finally passed my CFPM after two attempts — what actually helped

Okay so I've been lurking here for months and figured I owe it to this community to share what worked for me. Failed my first attempt back in February by 7 points — honestly embarrassing given how long I'd been in facilities management. The problem wasn't experience, it was that I kept studying the wrong way. I was basically just rereading my notes from the prep course and hoping it would stick.

What turned things around was actually doing a proper CFPM practice test under timed conditions. I found that simulating the real exam pressure exposed massive gaps I didn't know I had, especially in the sustainability and compliance sections. I also picked up a solid study guide that broke down the competency domains by weight — that alone changed how I allocated my prep time.

My second attempt I scored an 81. If you're in the thick of studying right now, I'm happy to answer questions. A few exam tips that made a difference for me: don't ignore the legal/regulatory domain even though it feels dry, and time yourself ruthlessly on practice sets. What's tripping you all up?

This is exactly what I needed to read today. I've got my exam in six weeks and I keep second-guessing whether I've studied enough. The sustainability section is killing me — there's so much overlap between concepts that I second-guess myself even when I think I know the answer. Did you find a particular resource that broke down the environmental compliance stuff clearly? I'm not looking for a textbook, just something focused.

Two attempts is actually pretty common from what I've seen in this forum. A guy on my team passed on his third try and he manages a portfolio of 12 buildings — it's not about experience, it's about learning the exam logic. The way they phrase questions is weirdly specific and sometimes the "obvious" answer from real-world practice is actually wrong because it's not what the standard says. Took me a while to accept that.

The timed practice point is so underrated. I did untimed practice for weeks and felt great, then bombed a timed mock with a 64. Changed everything after that. Give yourself no more than 90 seconds per question when you drill.
