Finally passed CEPSCI after two attempts — here's what actually helped

So I just got my results back yesterday and I finally passed. Honestly sitting here a little stunned because my first attempt back in February was rough — scored a 71 and needed a 75. I work full-time in environmental services and was trying to study in maybe 20-30 minute chunks whenever I could grab time, which clearly wasn't cutting it.

For round two I got way more structured about it. I found a solid CEPSCI practice test online and started drilling the regulatory sections specifically, which is where I was weakest. The hazardous materials compliance questions tripped me up a lot on attempt one. I also went through a CEPSCI study guide that broke down the inspection protocols in a way that actually made sense versus just memorizing definitions.

My biggest exam tip honestly is to not underestimate the situational judgment questions. They look straightforward but there are usually two answers that both seem reasonable. Anyone else here prepping for CEPSCI or recently went through it? Happy to share more specifics on what worked for me.

Two attempts is totally normal for this cert, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. The pass rate isn't exactly generous. Good on you for going back at it instead of giving up — that's the hard part.

Congrats! I'm sitting for mine in six weeks and the situational questions are exactly what's stressing me out too. I've been averaging about 78% on practice sets but I keep second-guessing myself on the real-world scenario stuff. Did you find the actual exam matched the difficulty level of the practice tests you were using, or was it noticeably harder?

The regulatory section gets everyone. I passed on my first try but I put in probably 60 hours over two months — maybe 10 of those were just on RCRA and CERCLA compliance scenarios alone. One exam tip that helped me: read every answer choice before committing. On at least four or five questions I almost picked the first thing that looked right and would've been wrong.
