Finally passed CEAS after two attempts — here's what actually helped

I just got my results back yesterday and I'm still kind of in shock — I passed! Background: I'm an occupational health nurse at a manufacturing plant and my employer basically told me I had 18 months to get certified or lose the ergonomics program responsibilities. No pressure, right? I failed my first attempt back in February by 11 points, which was honestly devastating after three months of studying.

What changed the second time around was how I structured my prep. I stopped just reading the CEAS Body of Knowledge cover to cover and started actually testing myself. Found a solid CEAS practice test that mimicked the real question style — the applied ergonomics scenarios especially. I also picked up the HFES study guide, which I'd skipped the first time, and it filled in huge gaps around anthropometrics and risk assessment tools like RULA and NIOSH lifting equations.

Biggest tip I can give: don't underestimate the administrative and program management section. I thought that'd be easy stuff and completely bombed it first time. What did everyone else find most challenging? Happy to share my full study timeline if that helps anyone.

Congrats!! I sat for mine last fall and the program management section got me too — it felt way more ambiguous than the clinical stuff. The NIOSH lifting equation questions were actually pretty straightforward once I drilled them enough. I used flashcards for the constants and that helped a ton. How long did you study the second time around compared to your first attempt?

Eleven points off on your first try and you came back and passed — that takes guts. The RULA/REBA section is where most people I know lose points. Make sure you're not just memorizing action levels but understanding WHY certain postures score the way they do. Good luck to everyone prepping right now.

This is really encouraging to read. I'm scheduled for August and I'm about six weeks out. The practice questions I've been finding online vary wildly in quality — some feel way too easy and others seem completely off-topic from what the BOK actually covers. Did you find the real exam leaned more toward application scenarios or recall-type questions? I'm an industrial hygienist crossing over into ergo so the clinical anatomy piece is where I feel shakiest.
