Finally passed CCMC on my second attempt — here's what actually worked

I failed by 11 points the first time and honestly wanted to quit. I'd been a case manager for six years and figured my experience alone would carry me through. It didn't. The CCMC covers so much more than day-to-day case management work — transitions of care, ethical and legal stuff, quality outcomes — and I wasn't prepared for how the questions are worded. They're scenario-based and two answers always seem right.

What changed for me the second time was finding a solid CCMC practice test bank and actually drilling questions daily for eight weeks. I did about 30-40 questions every morning before work. The rationales are where the real learning happens. I also picked up the official study guide and used it to fill in gaps after reviewing my weak categories. Psychosocial support and reimbursement were killing me.

Passed with a comfortable margin this time. If you're in the same boat or prepping for your first attempt, happy to share more specific exam tips about pacing and which domains to prioritize. Anyone else here studying for the CCMC right now?

Second attempt success stories honestly keep me going. I take mine next month. One thing my study group swears by is timing yourself on practice blocks — 150 questions in 3 hours sounds doable until you're actually doing it. I ignored pacing my first mock exam and ran out of time on the last 20 questions. Don't skip that part of your prep.

Congrats! The scenario-based format trips up so many experienced case managers. Worth reminding everyone: CCM eligibility requires supervised hours, so double-check your documentation before you apply — nothing worse than prep time wasted on an eligibility issue.

This is so encouraging to read. I'm sitting for mine in about ten weeks and the reimbursement section is my nightmare too. I've been using a CCMC practice test set and the questions feel harder than I expected — which I'm told is intentional so the real exam feels more manageable. Did you find the actual exam harder or easier than your practice tests?
