Just got my results back and I'm 7 points below the passing threshold. Honestly thought I'd nailed it walking out. I've been doing content marketing for 6 years so I figured the exam would mostly validate what I already know, but the analytics and measurement sections were way more technical than I prepared for.

I studied for 5 weeks, about 45 minutes a day, mostly reading the study guide and doing practice questions at the end of each chapter. That clearly wasn't enough depth. The questions on attribution modeling and content ROI calculation required a level of precision I wasn't ready for. I was eyeballing concepts I should've had locked down cold.

For my retake I'm giving myself 8 weeks and switching to active recall instead of passive reading. I've already started writing out definitions and frameworks from memory before checking the guide. Editorial strategy and SEO sections I'm not worried about — those felt straightforward. It's the measurement frameworks and content operations content I need to rebuild from scratch.

The analytics section blindsided me too on my first attempt. The questions aren't just "what is CPL" — they give you a scenario with numbers and ask you to interpret what the data means for a strategy decision. Very different from defining terms.

Six years of experience can actually work against you because you learn the "real world" way things are done, not the textbook definitions they test on. I had to consciously re-learn some frameworks the way the study guide presents them, not the way I do them at work.

Do the full-length timed practice exams at least 3 times before your retake. Pacing matters more than most people realize — the analytics questions take longer and can eat into time you need for other sections.

8 weeks with active recall is the right call. I used spaced repetition flashcards for the measurement section specifically and it made a real difference. Failing by 7 points means you're close — one focused month should close that gap.
