Finally passed CCIE after three attempts — here's what actually worked
I passed my CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure lab last month and I'm still in shock honestly. Three attempts over 18 months, failed the lab at 67% and 71% before finally hitting 82% on attempt three. The written was tough but manageable — what really broke me early on was underestimating how different the lab environment feels under pressure.
What changed for me: I stopped treating this like a normal Cisco exam. I started using a structured CCIE practice test approach for the written portion, drilling topics like SD-WAN policies, BGP manipulation, and MPLS L3VPNs until they were automatic. Found a solid study guide that actually mapped to the current v1.1 blueprint and worked through it methodically instead of jumping around.
My schedule was brutal — 3 hours every weekday, 6-7 hours on weekends for about eight months. I'm 34 with two kids so that required some serious family negotiations. Happy to answer questions on any specific topic area or share what lab scenarios tripped me up. Worth every painful hour.
