Finally passed my CCD exam after two attempts — here's what helped

So I finally got my CCD certification last week and honestly I'm still kind of in shock. Failed my first attempt back in March by just 8 points, which was brutal. I spent way too much time on the theoretical frameworks and completely underestimated how heavily they test application-based scenarios. Big mistake.

For my second attempt I completely changed my approach. I found a solid CCD study guide that organized the domains in a way that actually made sense, and I started doing timed CCD practice test sessions every other day for about six weeks. That shift from passive reading to active practice made a huge difference. I was consistently scoring in the low 70s at first, then crept up to the high 80s by week four.

If you're prepping right now, my biggest CCD exam tip is to focus on the competency domains in order of weight — don't treat them equally. I wasted so much time on domains that only make up 10-12% of the test. Happy to answer questions if anyone's in the same boat I was.

Congrats! Failing the first time is genuinely demoralizing but you came back stronger. I passed mine in January and the timed practice thing you mentioned is 100% the move. I used a 90-minute timer even for shorter practice sets just to simulate test pressure. By exam day the clock didn't stress me out at all. The domain weighting advice is spot-on too — I built a spreadsheet tracking which domains I missed questions in and prioritized from there.

This post is so timely, I'm literally scheduled for my first attempt in three weeks and I'm starting to spiral a little. Quick question — how did you find the actual exam difficulty compared to your practice tests? I've been scoring around 74-76% on practice questions and I can't tell if that's close enough or if I need to push it higher before I feel confident walking in.

74-76% is honestly right on the edge. I'd try to get to a consistent 80%+ before sitting. The real exam felt slightly harder to me than most practice questions I used, mostly because the wording is trickier. Give yourself another week if you can.
