Just got my CBEST results back and passed reading (73) and writing (60), but math got me — ended up with a 38 and needed a 41. I'm planning a 6-week retake timeline. My two main problems are slow mental math and weak geometry. I spent way too long on a few percentage and ratio problems and that ate into my time budget. For the retake I'm going to work through a CBEST practice test every other day and track which question types consistently trip me up.

Khan Academy's 8th grade math section is perfect for CBEST prep. Don't overcomplicate it. A 3-point gap is small and 6 weeks of consistent work will close it.
38 to a passing score is very doable in 6 weeks. The geometry on CBEST is really just perimeter, area, and basic coordinate stuff. Once you've drilled those a few times they stop taking as long. Timed practice is the key — the content isn't really the issue at this level.
I passed on my second attempt with a 47 after getting a 36 the first time. The difference was almost entirely pacing. I flagged hard questions and came back — never lingered more than 90 seconds on anything. Also, the estimation questions are easier than they look. Don't try to calculate exactly.
I retook just the math section after failing it twice. What helped me was setting a hard 1-minute limit per question during practice and moving on no matter what. I picked up 8 points just from not getting stuck on hard questions.
