Finally passed my CAPA exam after two attempts — here's what actually worked

So I've been putting off posting this for a while but I figured someone out there might be in the same boat I was six months ago. I'm a pharmacy technician with about four years of experience and my employer basically gave me a deadline to get certified or risk losing my position. No pressure, right? First attempt I scored a 68 — passing is 75 — and I honestly thought I'd crammed enough. I hadn't.

What changed the second time was actually being strategic. I used a CAPA study guide that broke things down by domain instead of just reading through everything front to back. The pharmacology and drug interactions section killed me the first time, so I spent probably 60% of my prep time there. I also started doing timed CAPA practice test sessions two weeks before my exam date, which helped me stop second-guessing myself.

Happy to share more specific exam tips if anyone's preparing right now. I know how stressful this process is — took me about 80 hours of total study time spread over six weeks before my second attempt. Totally worth it though. Just got the letter yesterday and I'm still a little in shock honestly.

The timed practice tests thing is real, I cannot stress that enough. I passed my CAPA on the first try and honestly the only reason was I'd done so many timed sets that the actual exam clock didn't freak me out. People underestimate how much test anxiety affects their score. The content was actually easier than some of the harder practice questions I'd been doing, which was a relief.

Congrats on passing! I'm in a similar situation — taking mine in about eight weeks and the pharmacology section has me nervous too. Did you use any specific resources for that domain or was it mostly the study guide? I've been doing flashcards but I'm not sure they're actually sticking. Also how many practice questions did you go through total before you felt ready?

80 hours is about right from what I've heard. I did around 70 and passed with an 82. Don't cram the last two days — I took those almost completely off and came in way more focused than my coworker who studied until midnight the night before and blanked on stuff she definitely knew.
