CAG exam prep — is the wilderness first aid requirement enforced before you can register?
I'm working toward my Certified Adventure Guide credential and I'm confused about the prerequisite documentation. The website says Wilderness First Aid certification is required, but I've talked to two people who registered without submitting proof and weren't asked for it until after they passed. Is this normal or did they just slip through a gap in the process?
I already have my WFA card from a 70-hour course I completed last year, so it's not a problem for me personally. I'm just trying to plan my timeline and figure out whether to submit everything upfront or register first and sort out documentation later. The whole application process feels a bit disorganized honestly.
On the exam content: I've been told the risk management and client safety sections are heavily weighted — maybe 35 to 40% of the total score. Is that accurate? I've been spending most of my prep on navigation and environmental hazards and I'm wondering if I'm allocating my hours wrong with 5 weeks to go.
I'm studying about 2 hours most evenings and feeling reasonably confident, but I've never taken a proctored exam in this field before so I don't really know what to expect format-wise. Multiple choice, written, scenario-based — anyone know?
Risk management being 35-40% sounds about right from what I remember. I'd also make sure you know incident reporting protocols cold — there were probably 8 or 9 questions on documentation and post-incident procedures in the version I took.

5 weeks at 2 hours a night is solid prep. The exam is multiple choice, 90 questions, with a 2-hour time limit. Most people I know finished in under 75 minutes so pacing wasn't really an issue once you're comfortable with the material.

Don't read the gap between "registered" and "asked for proof" as the requirement being optional. It's not enforced up front, it's enforced before they let you test, and that's a very different thing. Get the cert done early and save yourself the stress I put myself through.
