CADET test — how competitive are scores for different military occupations?

Applied for the Canadian Armed Forces about 3 months ago and just got my CFAT scheduled for next month. The test covers verbal skills, spatial ability, and problem solving, but I'm trying to figure out what score I actually need for vehicle technician and signals operator specifically. The recruiting office wasn't very specific about cutoffs.

I'm 22, been out of school for 4 years doing automotive repair, so the mechanical reasoning stuff should be fine. But I haven't done serious math or verbal testing in a while and I'm rusty. Currently scoring around 65-70% on practice tests and I'm not sure where the bar is for competitive trades.

Planning 4 weeks of focused prep at 45-60 minutes a day. Anyone know how strict they are about using CFAT scores to redirect applicants to different occupations than they requested? And do they allow retakes if you're unhappy with your score?

Signals operator is more verbal and problem-solving heavy. Make sure you're not neglecting those sections just because you're comfortable with the mechanical side. Time pressure catches people off guard on this test.

Vehicle tech requires a decent spatial score specifically — your automotive background should help more than you think. I scored 74% overall and was fine for technical trades.

They do have a waiting period before retakes — around 6 months, but confirm with your recruiting center since it can vary.

They absolutely do redirect applicants based on scores — it's not guaranteed you get your first choice even if you qualify. A higher score gives you more leverage to stick with what you applied for.

The math section hasn't changed much in years — basic arithmetic, percentages, some algebra. If you're rusty just grind 30 practice problems a day and it comes back fast.
