Failed BSCS twice — what finally worked for my third attempt?

So I've been at this BSCS certification for almost a year now and honestly I was starting to wonder if it was worth continuing. My first attempt I scored a 68% (needed 75%) and thought I just needed a little more prep. Second attempt, same story — 71%. Close but not close enough, and I'd sunk a lot of time into it at that point.

What changed for my third attempt was actually stumbling onto a decent BSCS practice test that was structured like the real thing, not just random trivia. I also finally broke down and got a proper study guide instead of just reading through the official materials. The combo of those two things helped me identify that computer organization and data structures were killing me — I'd been over-studying theory and under-practicing application questions.

Passed with an 81% last month. If anyone else is stuck on the same exam, I'm happy to share what resources and exam tips actually moved the needle for me. What are you all using to prep?

Congrats on passing! I'm currently in the middle of my first attempt prep and the data structures section is exactly where I'm struggling too. I've been doing about 2 hours a night for 6 weeks and still feel shaky on algorithm complexity questions. Did your study guide break that down differently than the official docs? I feel like I understand the concepts but freeze on the timed questions.

The timed aspect really is its own skill separate from just knowing the material. I passed on my second try and honestly what helped most was doing full-length practice sessions under actual time pressure — not just reviewing flashcards. Once I got comfortable with the pacing I stopped second-guessing answers I actually knew. Also, the networking fundamentals section tripped me up way more than I expected, so don't sleep on that.

81% on attempt three is a solid score — don't let anyone downplay that. Most people quit after failing twice. The BSCS pass rate isn't great from what I've seen so that persistence matters. Which practice test platform did you use? Always looking for ones that actually match the real exam format.
