Finally passed my BBC exam after failing twice — here's what worked

Okay so I've been putting off writing this but I figure someone out there is probably in the same boat I was six months ago. Failed the BBC exam twice — once by 4 points, second time by 2. It was brutal. I kept thinking I understood the material but clearly something wasn't clicking under test conditions.

What finally made the difference was actually committing to a structured BBC study guide instead of just re-reading my notes. I'd been skipping the practice sections because they felt tedious, but that was my mistake. The real exam throws scenarios at you that feel nothing like the chapter summaries. Once I started doing timed BBC practice test sets — like actually timing myself and not looking anything up — my accuracy jumped noticeably in about three weeks.

For anyone prepping right now: don't sleep on the application-based questions. That's where I kept losing points. Happy to share more specific BBC exam tips if people have questions. What sections are giving you the most trouble?

This is really encouraging, thanks for posting. I think a lot of people don't talk about failing and it makes everyone feel like they're the only one struggling. I passed on my second attempt too and honestly the biggest shift for me was treating the BBC practice test results like a diagnostic — figuring out WHY I got something wrong, not just what the right answer was. That mindset change helped a lot more than just grinding more questions.

Congrats on passing! I'm scheduled for next month and the scenario questions are exactly what's killing me on practice runs. I've been averaging around 71% and need a 75 to pass. Can I ask how many hours a week you were putting in during that final stretch? I'm doing maybe 8-10 right now but wondering if I need to bump it up.

Solid advice on the timed practice. Untimed sets give you a false sense of confidence. I'd also add — get a good night's sleep the two days before, not just the night before. My brain was noticeably sharper when I wasn't cramming until midnight.
