Failed the CBT — what to do differently the second time

Got my results yesterday and didn't pass. I'm frustrated but trying to stay focused on what to fix rather than dwelling on it. Writing this partly to process it and partly because I know others will be in the same spot.

My weakest area was practice test — I knew going in that it was shaky but underestimated how much the exam weighted it. The questions weren't unfair, I just didn't have the depth I needed.

I'm rebuilding my study plan around the free cbt cash handling & transactions questions and answers and going much slower this time — no more rushing through topics I think I know. Also going through certified bank teller test to fill in the conceptual foundation I was missing. Planning to take 6 more weeks before rescheduling.

Anyone else been through a CBT retake? What specifically changed in your approach that made the difference?

Congrats on passing! Can I ask — how many questions did the actual exam have compared to what the practice tests simulate? I've seen different numbers online and want to calibrate my timing during practice.

This is exactly the thread I needed. I sit for my CBT in 5 weeks and have been second-guessing my prep. The exam prep area you mentioned is definitely my weak spot. Thanks for the honest breakdown.

This is exactly the thread I needed. I sit for my CBT in 2 weeks and have been second-guessing my prep. The practice test area you mentioned is definitely my weak spot. Thanks for the honest breakdown.

Quick update since I'm in the same boat. I failed my CBT first try too and practice tests were my weak spot, just like you said about yours. I've been grinding them for the past two weeks and finally hit 84% on my last full-length yesterday. That's up from the low 60s when I started, so something's clicking. The trick for me was redoing every question I got wrong until I actually understood why, not just memorizing the right letter.

I'm sitting the real exam again in about three weeks. I want to be consistently above 80 before I book it for real, because I think I rushed it last time and didn't give myself enough runway. Don't beat yourself up about the first attempt. You already know your weak area, which honestly is half the battle, and you've got time to fix it.

Quick update since I'm in the same boat as you. I retook a full practice set last weekend and pulled a 78%, which is the first time I've been comfortably over passing on a timed run. The customer service section was killing me before, so I drilled it hard using this free cbt customer service communication set and the wording finally started clicking. Turns out my problem wasn't the content, it was rushing and second guessing myself.

I've got my retake booked for the 28th. Giving myself two more weeks so I can keep my scores steady instead of cramming and burning out like I did the first time. If you just failed, don't sit the real one again too fast. Build the score up first, then book it.
