Finally passed the AZ permit test on my second attempt — here's what worked

Took the Arizona permit test about 6 weeks ago for the first time and failed with a 74% when you need an 80% to pass. I'd studied maybe 20 hours total spread across two weeks and clearly that wasn't enough for the trickier road sign questions.

Second time around I dedicated about 35 hours over 4 weeks, really drilling the areas I missed. I used a permit test to hammer the questions I kept getting wrong, especially the ones about speed limits in school and construction zones. The difference was huge.

Ended up scoring an 88% on my actual test, which was a real relief. The MVD office moved fast too — the whole thing took maybe 45 minutes including the vision screening. If you're prepping right now, pay serious attention to the road sign section. That tripped me up way more than the rules of the road content did.

The sign section is brutal if you're not used to it. I spent almost a third of my study time just on signs and still second-guessed a couple on test day. Passed with an 82% though.

Good advice on the 35-hour timeline. I see people say you can pass in a weekend and maybe some can, but for most of us spreading it out over a few weeks makes a big difference for retention.

I failed my first attempt at 74% too. Funny how common that score seems to be. Second time I really hammered the practice questions and went from borderline to 86%.

The construction zone speed limits caught me off guard both times honestly.

Did you have trouble with the right-of-way scenarios? Those were the hardest for me to reason through, especially the four-way stop questions. Passed with 83% but those still made me nervous.
