How long does it actually take to pass the AZ notary exam?

So I just signed up to get my Arizona notary commission and honestly didn't realize there was an actual exam involved until like two days ago. I've been googling like crazy trying to figure out what to expect. From what I can tell, the test covers Arizona notarial law, proper acknowledgment procedures, journal requirements — stuff like that. But I can't find a clear breakdown of how many questions or what the passing score is.

I work full-time and have maybe 45 minutes a night to study. Has anyone used an AZ NOTARY practice test to prep, or is the official handbook enough on its own? I found one AZ NOTARY study guide PDF but it felt pretty dry and I'm not sure how closely it matches the actual exam content.

Any AZ NOTARY exam tips from people who've recently passed would be huge. Especially curious about the trickier areas — I keep seeing mentions of prohibited acts and signer identification requirements being tricky. How many days of studying are we realistically talking?

Passed mine about three months ago. Honestly the exam wasn't as bad as I feared, but I'd say don't underestimate the journal entry requirements — that section tripped me up on a couple practice questions. I studied maybe 4-5 days, roughly an hour each night. The official Arizona Secretary of State handbook is your bible but pairing it with a practice test helps you catch where your gaps actually are. Focus hard on prohibited acts and the difference between acknowledgments and jurats.

I failed my first attempt because I skimmed the signer identification section. Seriously, know the acceptable ID types cold — government-issued photo ID rules, credible witnesses, the whole thing. Second time around I drilled practice questions specifically on that topic and passed with room to spare. Also the electronic notarization stuff is newer so don't skip it thinking it won't show up. It did for me.

Give yourself at least a week if you're studying part-time. Don't cram it into two days — the material is manageable but there's more detail than you'd expect. You've got this!
