Finally passed AZ-800 after two attempts — what actually worked for me

So I just got my pass notification this morning and I'm honestly still in shock. Failed my first attempt back in March with a 693 (passing is 700) which was absolutely brutal. I work as a sysadmin managing a hybrid environment and thought my day-to-day experience would carry me through, but the exam hits some really specific Windows Server 2022 scenarios that I hadn't touched in years.

What finally made the difference was being way more systematic the second time around. I spent about 6 weeks on focused prep — roughly 90 minutes a day. I used an AZ-800 practice test site to identify my weak spots, which turned out to be Hyper-V replica configuration and the newer IPAM stuff. Once I knew where the gaps were, I could actually target my study guide time instead of just re-reading everything.

My biggest tip: don't sleep on the Active Directory trust relationship questions. They came up way more than I expected. Anyone else currently prepping? Happy to share more exam tips if people are working through this.

Congrats! I'm scheduled for mid-June and this is encouraging. I've been using practice tests pretty heavily and keep getting wrecked by the storage spaces direct questions. Did those show up much for you? I've read maybe 3 different study guides and they all explain it differently which is frustrating. Also — what score were you hitting on practice exams before you felt ready?

Two attempts is totally normal for this one, don't let anyone make you feel bad about it. The hybrid identity stuff with Azure AD Connect caught me off guard on my first try too. Second time I watched a bunch of hands-on lab walkthroughs instead of just reading, and that clicked way better for me. The practice test questions that have scenario-based drag-and-drop formats are the closest to the real thing in my experience.

Nice work pushing through after a near-miss like that. 693 would've broken me honestly. The IPAM section is no joke — I'd add that knowing DHCP failover cold is worth an hour of dedicated study. Saved me at least two questions.
