Finally passed ASUS exam after two attempts — here's what actually worked

So I just got my results back yesterday and I'm honestly still in shock — passed with a 78 after failing my first attempt in March with a 61. I want to share what changed because I was pretty lost after that first fail and the forums here actually helped me a lot when I was spiraling.

First attempt I just read through the official documentation and figured that was enough. Spoiler: it wasn't. What made the difference this time was finding a solid ASUS study guide that broke down the hardware diagnostic sections specifically, because that's where I got destroyed the first time. I spent about 3 weeks, maybe 90 minutes a day, focusing almost entirely on troubleshooting workflows and component compatibility. Also started doing timed ASUS practice test sessions every few days to get comfortable with the question format — the wording can be weirdly tricky.

Anyone else preparing right now or have questions about specific topic areas? Happy to share more details about what I focused on. The thermal management questions especially caught me off guard the first time around.

78 is a great score, especially after bouncing back from a fail. That second attempt discipline is hard. Good luck to everyone else here grinding through it — the study investment is 100% worth it once you're on the other side.

Congrats on passing! Seriously, two attempts takes guts to stick with. I'm about three weeks out from my exam date and the thermal management stuff is exactly where I feel weakest too. Did you find any particular practice questions that covered that well, or was it more about understanding the underlying concepts? I've been doing maybe an hour a day but wondering if I need to ramp that up.

The timed practice thing is underrated advice. I work in IT support and thought my hands-on experience would carry me but the exam format is its own skill. Started doing 20-question timed blocks and my accuracy jumped maybe 15 points over two weeks just from that. Also a big tip: read every wrong answer explanation, not just the right one. That's where the real exam tips hide — understanding why the wrong answers are wrong.
