Taking my AR DMV knowledge test next Thursday and I'm trying to figure out the exact passing threshold. From what I've read online you need 80% to pass, which means out of 25 questions you can miss 5. But some people on other forums are saying the test has 30 questions now – anyone know which is current?
I've been studying for about 3 weeks, roughly 45 minutes a day using the Arkansas driver handbook plus some online practice tests. My practice scores are sitting around 84-88%, but the real test always seems to have a few curveball questions about specific road signs I haven't fully memorized yet.
The trickiest part for me is right-of-way rules at uncontrolled intersections and the rules around school buses. Arkansas has some specific laws about when you can pass a stopped school bus that differ slightly from what I learned when I was licensed in another state. Any tips on getting those to stick?
25 questions, need 20 correct (80%) – that's the current format as of last year. I took mine in Little Rock in March and it was definitely 25. The school bus rules are straightforward once you memorize the divided highway exception.
Don't overthink the school bus questions – in Arkansas you stop in both directions unless there's a physical median divider. That's the main distinction they test on. Took me two read-throughs to get it to stick.
Practice tests online are really close to the real thing for Arkansas. I did about 200 practice questions across different sites and passed first try with an 88%. The uncontrolled intersection questions are almost word-for-word from the handbook.
Road signs tripped me up more than anything. I'd spend at least two dedicated sessions on signs alone – I got 3 wrong on signs on my first attempt and failed by one question. Second time I passed with a 92%.
