Finally passed my APP exam after two failed attempts — here's what worked
I'm not going to sugarcoat it — I failed the APP twice before I finally passed last month. The first time I went in way too confident, figured my field experience would carry me. Scored a 68 when I needed a 75. Second attempt I crammed with a random APP study guide I found online that was honestly pretty outdated and missed a ton of the current content areas. Failed again by four points, which was gutting.
What finally turned it around was being more systematic about it. I spent about six weeks this time, roughly an hour a day on weekdays. I focused heavily on anesthesia pharmacology and airway management since those were clearly my weak spots from the score reports. Taking an APP practice test every few days helped me get comfortable with the question style — the way they phrase clinical scenarios is pretty specific and you need to recognize the pattern.
Curious if anyone else struggled with the pharmacology section specifically, or if there are particular exam tips that helped you lock down the clinical judgment questions? Happy to share more details about my timeline if it helps anyone prepping right now.
