I'm not going to sugarcoat it — I failed the APP twice before I finally passed last month. The first time I went in way too confident, figured my field experience would carry me. Scored a 68 when I needed a 75. Second attempt I crammed with a random APP study guide I found online that was honestly pretty outdated and missed a ton of the current content areas. Failed again by four points, which was gutting.

What finally turned it around was being more systematic about it. I spent about six weeks this time, roughly an hour a day on weekdays. I focused heavily on anesthesia pharmacology and airway management since those were clearly my weak spots from the score reports. Taking an APP practice test every few days helped me get comfortable with the question style — the way they phrase clinical scenarios is pretty specific and you need to recognize the pattern.

How long did you wait between your second and third attempt? I just got my score back from attempt one and I'm trying to figure out the right amount of time to give myself. Also did you use any specific question banks? I've been doing maybe 30 questions a day but I'm not sure if that's enough volume. My test is in eight weeks and I'm hovering around 70 on practice sets.

Eight weeks is plenty of time if you're consistent. Prioritize your weak areas from the score report — don't waste hours on stuff you already know cold. And simulate real test conditions at least once a week: timed, no interruptions, full-length. That alone cut my test anxiety down significantly.
