Failed APHA exam twice — what finally worked for my third attempt

I've been trying to get my APHA certification for almost a year now and honestly I was starting to lose hope. Failed by 8 points the first time, then by 3 points in February. At that point I figured I needed to completely overhaul my study approach because clearly just rereading the material wasn't cutting it.

What changed everything was actually doing timed practice questions instead of passive reading. I found a solid APHA practice test that simulated the real exam format and started tracking which domains I kept getting wrong — for me it was medication therapy management and immunization content. Once I could see the patterns in my mistakes, I built my study guide around those weak spots specifically rather than reviewing everything equally.

Sitting for my third attempt next month and feeling genuinely confident for the first time. Anyone else here had to take it multiple times? Would love to hear what exam tips helped you push through, especially for the clinical judgment sections. My goal is at least 75% this time around.

Oh man, I could've written this post six months ago. Two fails here too. What finally got me through was a combination of things — the practice questions helped a ton but I also started doing 20-minute focused reviews right before bed instead of long marathon sessions. Spaced repetition basically. Passed on attempt three with a 78. You've got this, especially since you've already identified your weak domains.

Have you looked at the ASHP study guide alongside your practice materials? I used it as my backbone and then layered practice questions on top. The clinical judgment stuff is tricky because they're testing your reasoning process, not just recall. I'd read the rationale for every wrong answer, not just note that I got it wrong. That shift in how I reviewed mistakes made a huge difference for me.

Third time is definitely the charm for a lot of people. Three-time passer here — took me a while to accept that this exam rewards application over memorization. Go get it.
