Finally passed my Alternative Medicine certification after failing twice, here's what worked

I don't even know where to start. I've been studying for this Alternative Medicine exam for almost eight months now and just got my passing score last week. Honestly cried a little. First two attempts I thought I could wing it with just my coursework notes — big mistake. The herbal pharmacology section alone covers so much ground that you really need a structured study guide to keep it all organized in your head.

What finally clicked for me was treating the practice tests like actual exams rather than casual review. I'd set a timer, no phone, the whole deal. The Alternative Medicine Herbal & Natural Remedies practice test was especially useful for identifying my weak spots — I kept bombing questions on herb-drug interactions and didn't even realize it until I started tracking my scores by topic.

Anyone else here working toward this certification? I've got a bunch of exam tips from my prep process I'm happy to share. What section are you finding hardest?

The interactions section tripped me up as well — specifically St. John's Wort combinations. What helped me was making a one-page cheat sheet of the highest-yield interactions and reviewing it every morning. Also the Alternative Medicine Herbal & Natural Remedies 2 set has some really tough questions that are closer to actual exam difficulty than most study guides. Don't underestimate the energetics questions either, those surprised me.

Congrats!! I'm currently on attempt one and the herb-drug interactions are killing me too. My instructor kind of glossed over that section so I've been supplementing with practice tests almost daily. Can I ask roughly how many hours you put in for your third attempt vs the first two? I'm trying to plan my timeline better because I've got about 10 weeks before my next test date.

Eight months is real dedication — that kind of persistence is exactly what this field takes. My exam tip: do at least one full-length timed simulation in the week before your test. Pacing matters more than people think, especially on the longer scenario questions.
