Finally passed my ADF exam after two attempts — here's what worked

So I just got my results back and I passed with an 84%, which honestly felt like winning the lottery after failing by 4 points the first time around. I want to share what I did differently because I see a lot of people here asking the same questions I had six months ago.

The biggest game-changer for me was actually using a structured ADF practice test routine instead of just reading through the material. My first attempt I studied maybe 30 hours total, skimming chapters and feeling confident. Second attempt I did closer to 60 hours but way more focused — timed practice sets every other day, reviewing every wrong answer, not just moving on. The ADF study guide I used the second time also broke down the scoring domains clearly, which helped me stop wasting time on sections I was already strong in.

Biggest exam tips I'd give: don't underestimate the scenario-based questions, they're worded to trick you, and give yourself at least 6 weeks of prep. What are you all using to study? Curious if anyone else found the time management section particularly rough.

The time management section got me on my first attempt too — I ran out of time with 12 questions left. Second try I started skipping anything that took more than 90 seconds and came back at the end. Completely changed my score. Also make sure you know the ADF values inside out, they show up way more than the study guide implies.

Congrats on passing! I'm about three weeks out from my exam and the scenario questions are stressing me out too. I've been doing two practice sets per day and my scores are hovering around 74-76%. Started weak on workplace relations questions but they're coming up now. Did you find the real exam was harder or easier than the practice materials you used?

84% is a great score, well done. Six weeks is solid advice — I crammed in three and barely scraped through. Give yourself the time, it's worth it.
