Finally passed ACS CP after two attempts — what actually worked for me
So I just got my results back and I finally passed the ACS Certified Paralegal exam on my second try. First attempt I scored a 68 and needed a 70, which was brutal. I'd been working as a paralegal for about four years before sitting for it, so I figured my work experience would carry me through. Spoiler: it doesn't.
What made the difference the second time around was actually being systematic about it. I spent about 6 weeks studying, roughly an hour a night on weekdays and 3-4 hours on Saturdays. The biggest change was using a structured ACS CP study guide instead of just reviewing my work notes — I needed to see the material organized the way the exam actually tests it. I also did a ton of practice questions, probably 400-500 total across different sources.
The ethics and substantive law sections tripped me up the most on attempt one. If you're prepping, I'd seriously suggest doing an ACS CP practice test early so you know where your gaps are before you waste study time on stuff you already know. Happy to answer questions about what the test day experience is like.
