  1. A victim is found floating face-down in a swimming pool. After pulling them out, what is your FIRST action?

Answer: Check for responsiveness and breathing

Always assess responsiveness and breathing first before initiating any CPR intervention.

  2. During CPR, rescue breaths are being given but the chest is not rising. What is the FIRST corrective action?

Answer: Reopen the airway with a head-tilt chin-lift

If breaths are not effective, reposition the airway using the head-tilt chin-lift technique before retrying.

  3. Where should AED electrode pads be placed on an adult victim?

Answer: Upper right chest and lower left side below the armpit

One pad goes on the upper right chest below the collarbone; the other goes on the lower left side below the armpit.

  4. An AED is delivered while CPR is in progress. When should CPR be paused?

Answer: Only when the AED says 'analyzing'

CPR should be paused only when the AED prompts you to stop so it can analyze the heart rhythm.

  5. In infant CPR, how many fingers are used for chest compressions when only one rescuer is present?

    Answer: Two fingers

A single rescuer uses two fingers (middle and ring) placed just below the nipple line for infant compressions.

  6. A victim has a pacemaker visible under the skin on the chest. How does this affect AED pad placement?

Answer: Place pads at least 1 inch away from the device

AED pads should be placed at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) away from an implanted pacemaker to avoid interference.

  7. What compression depth is recommended for adult CPR?

    Answer: At least 2 inches

Adult chest compressions should be at least 2 inches (5 cm) deep but no more than 2.4 inches (6 cm).
