Answer: 20,250 gallons
2 hours 15 minutes = 135 minutes; 135 × 150 = 20,250 gallons.
A ladder is placed against a building with its base 8 feet from the wall and reaches a height of 15 feet. What is the length of the ladder?
Answer: 17 feet
Using the Pythagorean theorem: √(8² + 15²) = √(64 + 225) = √289 = 17 feet.
A fire station receives 12 alarms on Monday, 9 on Tuesday, 15 on Wednesday, 6 on Thursday, and 18 on Friday. What is the average number of alarms per day?
Answer: 12 alarms
(12 + 9 + 15 + 6 + 18) ÷ 5 = 60 ÷ 5 = 12 alarms per day.
A chemical foam concentrate is mixed at a 3% ratio. How many gallons of concentrate are needed to make 400 gallons of finished foam solution?
Answer: 12 gallons
400 × 0.03 = 12 gallons of concentrate.
A building floor plan measures 120 feet by 85 feet. What is the total square footage?
Answer: 10,200 sq ft
120 × 85 = 10,200 square feet.
A firefighter earns $22.50 per hour and works a 56-hour week. She receives 1.5× overtime pay for all hours over 40. What is her total gross pay for the week?
Answer: $1,440.00
Regular pay: 40 × $22.50 = $900; Overtime: 16 × $33.75 = $540; Total = $900 + $540 = $1,440.
A tanker truck holds 3,500 gallons of water. A pumper is drafting from it at 500 gallons per minute while also supplying a hose line at 250 gallons per minute. How many minutes before the tanker is empty?
