  1. A fire hose delivers water at 150 gallons per minute. How many gallons are delivered in 2 hours and 15 minutes?

    Answer: 20,250 gallons

    2 hours 15 minutes = 135 minutes; 135 × 150 = 20,250 gallons.

  2. A ladder is placed against a building with its base 8 feet from the wall and reaches a height of 15 feet. What is the length of the ladder?

    Answer: 17 feet

    Using the Pythagorean theorem: √(8² + 15²) = √(64 + 225) = √289 = 17 feet.

  3. A fire station receives 12 alarms on Monday, 9 on Tuesday, 15 on Wednesday, 6 on Thursday, and 18 on Friday. What is the average number of alarms per day?

    Answer: 12 alarms

    (12 + 9 + 15 + 6 + 18) ÷ 5 = 60 ÷ 5 = 12 alarms per day.

  4. A chemical foam concentrate is mixed at a 3% ratio. How many gallons of concentrate are needed to make 400 gallons of finished foam solution?

    Answer: 12 gallons

    400 × 0.03 = 12 gallons of concentrate.

  5. A building floor plan measures 120 feet by 85 feet. What is the total square footage?

    Answer: 10,200 sq ft

    120 × 85 = 10,200 square feet.

  6. A firefighter earns $22.50 per hour and works a 56-hour week. She receives 1.5× overtime pay for all hours over 40. What is her total gross pay for the week?

    Answer: $1,440.00

    Regular pay: 40 × $22.50 = $900; Overtime: 16 × $33.75 = $540; Total = $900 + $540 = $1,440.

  7. A tanker truck holds 3,500 gallons of water. A pumper is drafting from it at 500 gallons per minute while also supplying a hose line at 250 gallons per minute. How many minutes before the tanker is empty?

    Answer: 4.7 minutes

    Total flow = 500 + 250 = 750 gpm; 3,500 ÷ 750 ≈ 4.67 minutes.
