    Weekly pay = $18.50 × 37.5 = $693.75.

    Answer: x = 8

    4x = 23 + 9 = 32; x = 32 ÷ 4 = 8.

  3. A pie chart represents a budget of $2,400. If 25% is spent on rent, how much is that in dollars?

    Answer: $600

    25% of $2,400 = 0.25 × 2,400 = $600.

  4. The average of five test scores is 82. Four of the scores are 78, 85, 90, and 76. What is the fifth score?

    Answer: 81

    Total needed = 82 × 5 = 410; fifth score = 410 − (78+85+90+76) = 410 − 329 = 81.

  5. A car depreciates by 15% per year. If its current value is $20,000, what will it be worth after 1 year?

    Value after 1 year = $20,000 × 0.85 = $17,000.

  7. A project budget of $150,000 was overspent by 12%. What was the actual expenditure?

    Answer: $168,000

    Actual = $150,000 × 1.12 = $168,000.
