What is the SI unit of electric current?
Answer: Ampere
The ampere (A) is the SI unit of electric current, measuring the flow of electric charge per unit time.
According to Ohm's Law, if voltage doubles while resistance stays constant, what happens to current?
Answer: Current doubles
Ohm's Law states V = IR; if R is constant and V doubles, then I = V/R also doubles.
Which law states that the total current entering a junction in a circuit equals the total current leaving it?
Answer: Kirchhoff's Current Law
Kirchhoff's Current Law (KCL) states that the algebraic sum of currents at any junction is zero, meaning current entering equals current leaving.
What happens to the resistance of a metallic conductor as its temperature increases?
Answer: Resistance increases
In most metallic conductors, increased temperature causes atoms to vibrate more, increasing collisions with electrons and thus increasing electrical resistance.
A magnet is moved rapidly into a coil of wire. What is produced in the coil?
Answer: An induced electric current
According to Faraday's Law of Electromagnetic Induction, a changing magnetic flux through a coil induces an electromotive force (EMF) and thus an electric current.
In the photoelectric effect, what must increase for electrons to be ejected from a metal surface?
Answer: Frequency of light
The photoelectric effect requires light frequency to exceed a threshold value; increasing intensity alone won't eject electrons if frequency is below the threshold.
Which of the following describes nuclear fission?
Answer: A heavy nucleus splits into two smaller nuclei releasing energy
Nuclear fission is the process in which a heavy atomic nucleus (such as uranium-235) splits into two smaller nuclei, releasing a large amount of energy.
