  1. You are approaching a zebra crossing where a person with a guide dog is waiting to cross. What should you do?

Answer: Stop and allow them to cross — do not rev your engine or sound the horn

You must stop for pedestrians at a zebra crossing. For people with guide dogs, you should be especially patient. Do not rev your engine, sound your horn, or flash your lights, as this may confuse or frighten the guide dog.

  2. When overtaking a horse rider, what precautions should you take?

Answer: Pass slowly and give plenty of room — at least 2 metres at no more than 10 mph

Horses can be easily frightened by vehicles. You should slow to a maximum of 10 mph, give at least 2 metres of space, and pass slowly and quietly. Do not sound your horn, rev your engine, or make sudden movements.

  3. You notice a group of children walking on a road with no pavement. Where should you expect them to be walking?

Answer: On the right-hand side of the road, facing oncoming traffic

Pedestrians on a road without a pavement should walk on the right-hand side so they face oncoming traffic and can see vehicles approaching. However, children may not always follow this rule, so you should be prepared for them on either side.

  4. You are turning left at a junction and see a cyclist in your left mirror. What should you do?

Answer: Give way to the cyclist and let them pass before turning

Under the updated Highway Code, drivers turning at a junction should give way to cyclists going straight ahead, including those using a cycle lane or on the road. Never cut across a cyclist's path — this is a major cause of serious cycling injuries.

  5. What does a flashing amber light at a pedestrian crossing mean?

Answer: You must give way to pedestrians still on the crossing, but may proceed if the crossing is clear

A flashing amber light at a pelican crossing means you must give way to any pedestrians still on the crossing. If the crossing is clear of pedestrians, you may proceed with caution.

  6. A motorcyclist is filtering through slow-moving traffic. As a driver, what should you do?

Answer: Check your mirrors before changing lanes and be aware they may be passing between vehicles

Filtering by motorcyclists through slow-moving traffic is legal. You should always check your mirrors, especially before changing lanes or opening doors, as motorcyclists may be moving between lanes of slow or stationary traffic.
