Although the mandatory SWMP Regulations 2008 were revoked in 2013, SWMPs remain best practice and are often required by clients, planning conditions, and BREEAM assessments. A SWMP forecasts waste types and volumes, identifies opportunities for waste prevention and reuse, sets recycling targets, and provides an ongoing record of waste management decisions throughout the project.

Construction work affecting bats requires a licence from Natural England, and ecological surveys must be conducted before demolition or renovation.

What is the legal requirement for dealing with contaminated land discovered during construction work?
