The CPHQ exam blueprint is organized into four content domains. Every question on the exam maps to one of these areas, so understanding the weight of each domain is critical for prioritizing your study time.
- Performance and Process Improvement — 27%: The largest domain covers quality improvement methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, PDCA), root cause analysis, failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA), and translating data findings into sustainable operational improvements.
- Organizational Leadership — 25%: Covers governance structures, accreditation (Joint Commission, CMS Conditions of Participation), regulatory compliance, strategic quality planning, and building a culture of quality across the organization.
- Health Data Analytics — 25%: Addresses data collection methods, statistical analysis, benchmarking, data visualization, public reporting requirements, and the use of clinical and administrative data to drive quality decisions.
- Patient Safety — 23%: Encompasses safety event reporting systems, high-reliability organization (HRO) principles, just culture frameworks, sentinel event review, and evidence-based safety practices.
A study plan that mirrors these proportions — spending the most time on Performance Improvement and the least on Patient Safety — will align your preparation with the actual exam weight.
