Pediatric oncology nurses provide nursing care for children with cancer. These nurses treat children who have been diagnosed with cancer and have a specialty in cancer care. They are capable of a variety of jobs. Some pediatric oncology nurses may place a strong emphasis on education and work to help patients understand how their condition affects them or how the next therapy will benefit them. The Oncology Nursing Certification Corp. stipulates that candidates must have at least one year of nursing experience within the previous three years, 1,000 hours of pediatric oncology or hematology nursing practice within the previous two and a half years, at least 10 contact hours of continuing nursing education within the previous three years, and an academic elective in oncology nursing.

There are 165 multiple-choice questions on the CPHON Test. 40 of those are “pretest” or experimental items, and 125 of those things contribute to the candidate’s score.
