CPHON Exam Questions and Answers
Pediatric oncology nurses provide nursing care for children with cancer. These nurses treat children who have been diagnosed with cancer and have a specialty in cancer care. They are capable of a variety of jobs. Some pediatric oncology nurses may place a strong emphasis on education and work to help patients understand how their condition affects them or how the next therapy will benefit them. Additionally, they assist and educate the child’s relatives. Treatments may also be administered by pediatric oncology nurses. They may administer chemotherapy or another form of prescribed treatment to a patient.
- Enroll in nursing programs and obtain your RN license.
- Pass the licensing test in your state. The National Council of State Boards of Nursing, which administers the NCLEX, is used by the majority of states. Candidates for nursing must submit an application, pay the testing cost, and wait for the board to provide them a letter authorizing them to take the exam.
- Participate in internship and fellowship programs in pediatric cancer nursing, which are provided by numerous hospitals and other healthcare organizations. Numerous of these programs feature talks, lectures, clinical practice, and one-on-one mentoring from a preceptor who is an expert pediatric oncology nurse.
- Look for hospitals that provide on-the-job training in pediatric cancer by asking nursing associations for recommendations or consulting the career services office at your school. Even recent graduates with no prior professional nursing experience are welcome to enroll in pediatric oncology nurse training programs at many hospitals. To assist new nurses in adjusting to the demands of pediatric oncology nursing, seek out facilities that offer comprehensive orientation and mentoring programs.
- Even though it’s not necessary, pediatric oncology nursing certification can help you stand out to employers or advance to roles with greater responsibility. You must have experience in both general and pediatric or cancer-specific nursing to be eligible for certification. The Oncology Nursing Certification Corp. stipulates that candidates must have at least one year of nursing experience within the previous three years, 1,000 hours of pediatric oncology or hematology nursing practice within the previous two and a half years, at least 10 contact hours of continuing nursing education within the previous three years, and an academic elective in oncology nursing.
There are 165 multiple-choice questions on the CPHON Test. 40 of those are “pretest” or experimental items, and 125 of those things contribute to the candidate’s score.
