A claim is submitted for $3,500. The payer denies 15% as non-covered. What is the covered amount?
Answer: $2,975
Non-covered = 15% × $3,500 = $525; covered = $3,500 − $525 = $2,975.
A patient has a $1,500 deductible. They have already met $950 of it. How much of a $700 bill will apply toward the remaining deductible?
Answer: $550
Remaining deductible = $1,500 − $950 = $550; since the bill is $700, only $550 applies toward the deductible.
A lab runs 240 tests in 8 hours. At this rate, how many tests will be completed in a 10-hour shift?
Answer: 300
Rate = 240 ÷ 8 = 30 tests/hour; in 10 hours = 30 × 10 = 300 tests.
A coder reviews 48 charts in a 6-hour workday. What is the average time spent per chart in minutes?

Total minutes = 6 × 60 = 360; time per chart = 360 ÷ 48 = 7.5 minutes.
A provider's AR balance is $85,000. They collect $12,500 in week 1 and $9,800 in week 2. What is the remaining AR balance?
Answer: $62,700
Total collected = $12,500 + $9,800 = $22,300; remaining AR = $85,000 − $22,300 = $62,700.
