Dimensional analysis is primarily used to:
Answer: Verify unit consistency and convert between units
Dimensional analysis checks that equations are dimensionally consistent and converts quantities from one unit system to another.
How many millimetres are in 2.5 metres?
Answer: 2,500
One metre equals 1,000 mm, so 2.5 m × 1,000 mm/m = 2,500 mm.
Convert 5 kilometres to centimetres:
Answer: 500,000 cm
5 km × 1,000 m/km × 100 cm/m = 500,000 cm.
A container holds 3,500 mL. How many litres is that?
Answer: 3.5 L
3,500 mL ÷ 1,000 mL/L = 3.5 L.
A force of 500 N acts over an area of 0.25 m². What is the pressure in pascals?
Answer: 2,000 Pa
Pressure = Force ÷ Area = 500 N ÷ 0.25 m² = 2,000 Pa.
An object travels 120 km in 1.5 hours. What is its average speed in km/h?
Answer: 80 km/h
Speed = distance ÷ time = 120 km ÷ 1.5 h = 80 km/h.
