25% of $40 = $10, so selling price = $40 + $10 = $50.

Answer: 12
Boys = (3/7) × 28 = 12.
A car travels 180 miles in 3 hours. At the same rate, how long will it take to travel 300 miles?
Answer: 5 hours
Speed = 60 mph; time = 300 / 60 = 5 hours.
What is 15% of 240?
Answer: 36
15% × 240 = 0.15 × 240 = 36.
If a price decreases from $80 to $60, what is the percent decrease?
Answer: 25%
Percent decrease = (80 - 60) / 80 × 100 = 20/80 × 100 = 25%.
Three friends split a restaurant bill of $87 equally. How much does each person pay?
Answer: $29
Each person pays $87 ÷ 3 = $29.
A recipe calls for 2½ cups of flour for 12 cookies. How many cups are needed for 30 cookies?
Answer: 6¼
Scale factor = 30/12 = 2.5; cups = 2.5 × 2.5 = 6.25 = 6¼.
