How do you identify an author's argument in a passage?
Answer: Find the central claim and the evidence or reasoning used to support it
The author's argument consists of a central claim (thesis) supported by evidence, examples, and logical reasoning throughout the passage.
What is the purpose of a counterargument in a text?
Answer: To acknowledge opposing views, often before refuting them to strengthen the main argument
Writers include counterarguments to show they have considered other perspectives, then explain why their own position is stronger.
What is tone vs. mood in a literary passage?
Answer: Tone is the author's attitude; mood is the emotional atmosphere the reader experiences
