  1. If a shirt originally costs $80 and is discounted 25%, what is the sale price?

    Answer: $60

    25% of $80 is $20. Subtracting the discount: $80 - $20 = $60.

  2. What is the probability of rolling a sum of 7 with two dice?

    Answer: 6/36 or 1/6

    Six combinations produce a sum of 7: (1,6),(2,5),(3,4),(4,3),(5,2),(6,1). Out of 36 possible outcomes, probability = 6/36 = 1/6.

  3. If a car travels 180 miles in 3 hours, what is its average speed?

    Answer: 60 mph

    Average speed = distance ÷ time = 180 ÷ 3 = 60 mph.

  4. What is 15% of 240?

    Answer: 36

    15% × 240 = 0.15 × 240 = 36.

  5. If x + 5 = 12, what is the value of 2x?

    Answer: 14

    x + 5 = 12, so x = 7. Therefore 2x = 2(7) = 14.
