Answer: 15 days
Total work = 3 × 20 = 60 worker-days. Time for 4 workers = 60 ÷ 4 = 15 days.
A train journey is 180 miles. The train travels the first 60 miles at 60 mph, then the remaining 120 miles at 80 mph. What is the total journey time?
Answer: 2 hours 30 minutes
First section: 60 ÷ 60 = 1 hour. Second section: 120 ÷ 80 = 1.5 hours. Total = 2.5 hours = 2 hours 30 minutes.
A clock shows 3:45 PM. What time will it show 4 hours and 50 minutes later?
Answer: 8:35 PM
3:45 + 4 hours = 7:45. 7:45 + 50 minutes = 8:35 PM.
A car travels 420 km in 3.5 hours. What is its average speed?
Answer: 120 km/h
Speed = 420 ÷ 3.5 = 120 km/h.
A machine produces 150 units per hour. How long will it take to produce 900 units?
Answer: 6 hours
Time = 900 ÷ 150 = 6 hours.
A worker earns £12.50 per hour. How much do they earn for a 37.5-hour working week?
Answer: £468.75
Earnings = £12.50 × 37.5 = £468.75.
